The Library of Congress, as part of a "Celebration of the Book" exhibition, has released a list of books that are considered to have had great influence in the United States.
“This list is a starting point,” said James H. Billington, Librarian of Congress. “It is not a register of the ‘best’ American books – although many of them fit that description. Rather, the list is intended to spark a national conversation on books written by Americans that have influenced our lives, whether they appear on this initial list or not.”
More titles can be nominated to the list through the Library of Congress' National Book Festival website.

It's funny -- I just *finally* read 'The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn' this past week, and it's the top book on this list. I've only read maybe 1/5 of these, though, so more books for my TBR list!

Stranger in a Strange Land! I'm so glad that got on the list! I'm not sure how it formally shaped me but I read it during a period I was heavily into classics and this is one that really stuck with me. This is a wonderful book list.
